Gent Regatta

Please see below, from Russell Jones, National Junior Development Coach, regarding the Gent Regatta on 18th - 20th May 2012

Each year, the Koninklijke Cano Club, Gent, host a regatta. This year, to encourage more exposure to international competition for junior athletes, Canoe England and the Sprint Racing Committee are supporting a trip to this event.

We hope to take up to 60 junior athletes.  Paddlers will need to be in classes “A” and “B” for boys and girls initially, but subject to demand, it may be possible to take “C” class paddlers.  The only selection criterion is athlete availability at this time. This is a Junior International experience event that will be managed by Canoe England staff and as such athletes will race in their Club colours. Athlete contribution will be £100 per person.

Buses and trailers will leave from the Midlands and Thames areas to enable as many to participate as possible and K4’s will be provided.

Spaces on buses will be limited and to enable us to take the target number of athletes, we hope that Clubs/ parents with MPVs will be able to transport small groups of paddlers.  Ferry and fuel costs will be paid for those able to help out. Squad minibuses will be leaving Friday morning and returning very late Sunday night. Please take into account that this may clash with some school exams and it is possible in some cases to move these (with enough notice) for this type of event.

Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.  Application for a place should be made by Friday 10th February 2012 to:
