FACILITIES

Welcome to facilities.

Community Asset Transfer
The recent round of funding cuts has resulted in most local authority budgets coming under pressure and the impact is beginning to be felt in sport and sport services.  However, it’s not all bad news!       Whilst on one hand funding cuts could mean the loss of a local canoeing centre, on the other hand it may present clubs with the opportunity to take ownership of their own facilities through asset transfer; it may also provide non-asset owning sports clubs with their first chance to take on a building.

What is Community Asset Transfer?
Asset transfer involves the transfer of the ownership of land or buildings from government organisations such as local authorities to community groups such as local sports clubs and trusts, often at a discounted price provided there is a benefit to the local community.

Sport England has been leading support in this area and has created a comprehensive toolkit to support both community sports clubs and local authorities through the asset transfer process.    http://www.sportengland.org/facilities-planning/tools-guidance/asset-transfer/

The Community Sport Asset Transfer Toolkit and Workshop
The Community Sport Asset Transfer Toolkit is an interactive web based tool that provides a step by step guide through each stage of the asset transfer process. Recognising that this is a complex area and can often be a daunting task for a sports club to undertake, the toolkit aims to make the process as accessible as possible by providing step by step information, resources and case studies.

In addition, Running Sport is rolling out a programme of workshops for clubs that want to know more about asset transfer. The workshops will help you to discover:

• what asset transfer is
• the issues you need to consider before taking on a transfer
• legal issues you need to be aware of
• suitable forms that are available.

Sport England Inspired Facilities Fund- APPLICATION ROUND 5 NOW OPEN! (Nov 2013)

An easier way to apply for facilities funding

Inspired Facilities is focused on making it easier for local community and volunteer groups to improve and refurbish sports clubs or transform non-sporting venues into modern grassroots sport facilities. The Inspired Facilities fund could help you refurbish or upgrade your sports facility; or convert an existing building into a venue suitable for sport and accessible to the whole community.

Sport England will invest in most types of improvement or refurbishment work that will help you develop sport in your local area.

Part of Places People Play, Sport England’s programme to deliver a London 2012 legacy of increased mass participation in sport, it is investing £50 million of National Lottery funding in up to 1000 community sports projects between 2011 and 2014.

Round 5 is currently open to applications and will close on 16 December 2013. There has been a further £40 million investment allocated to continue the Inspired Facilities programme for a further three years so this is not the final round.

The next round will be launched in spring 2014. All of the projects that receive funding in the next three years will still have an association with London 2012 and will carry the Inspired by 2012 logo.
