Canoe Polo is a team game of 5 paddlers who pass a ball from one to another with the objective of scoring a goal in a net suspended 2 metres above water.
The BCU Facility development objectives for Canoe Polo are:

    Enhance the BCU National Development Centre at Holme Pierrepont.

    Secure more access to indoor pools and outdoor pitches for competition and training.  
- 
    Develop a hierarchy of facilities to allow the development of personal skills and the development of excellence.  
- 
    Develop a network of Performance Centres and Development Centres.  
- 
    Canoe Polo Facility Framework 
The facility needs of Canoe Polo have been identified as comprising:
    - 
    A national centre, based at the National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepont.  
- 
    A spread of Performance Centres of at least one centre per region.  
- 
    Development Centres to develop skills and techniques and at least two per region.  
- 
    An infrastructure of clubs in all main population centres to support the development of the sport.  
- 
    Management 
- 
    The BCU wishes to improve access to swimming pools for coaching and Polo competition at affordable prices and appropriate times. 
To achieve the recognition that Canoe Polo is a supervised non-immersion sport, that satisfies HSE requirements, as recognised by the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management.
To achieve the ‘Dry Hire’ of swimming pools throughout England, so that Pools can be hired for Canoeing without the need for a ‘Swimming Lifeguard’, thus reducing costs.
